About Chris Ward

Assemblymember Chris Ward is a parent of two young children who motivate him every day to make the world a better place. Chris was first elected to serve the 78th Assembly District in November 2020, and quickly got to work on legislative action and constituent services to help state resources reach residents in need. He has been appointed to a number of leadership roles, including Speaker Pro Tempore, Assistant Majority Leader, and chair of key committees in addition to being the Assembly’s representative on the California Coastal Conservancy.

Chris helped deliver essential resources to the San Diego region through the state budget to help for proven homeless housing, climate, infrastructure and other long-needed support. In his first term, he sent 18 bills to the Governor’s desk where all were signed, helping reduce housing discrimination, create a community solar program, expand the Scholarshare program, protect threatened natural resources, assist crime victims, and more. He continues to prioritize housing, climate, and district support in his legislative work.
