What the Guides Said
YIMBY Action✓ EndorsesAbout Doug Trussler
I was born on March 23, 1971 in Tosamaganga, Iringa Region, Tanzania. I was fortunate to be born healthy as the 5 other children born that day at the same health facility did not survive. My parents were living in Africa, volunteering for a non-profit Canadian organization that provided teachers to developing countries. Shortly after my birth, my parents returned to Canada where my sister was born in 1973.
Their passion for humanitarian work led them back to Africa in 1975 when they moved our family to Thaba-Tseka, Lesotho – a country surrounded by South Africa. As an English teacher, my mother taught at the local school and my father, a mechanical engineer, was involved in many infrastructure projects from roads, to water and sewage infrastructure to housing developments. I also had my first memories of attending school in the mountains of Lesotho.
My earliest memories are of a community being built from the ground up by people who believed infrastructure and education were the foundations of a decent life.
