About Ross Bernet

I’m a father, husband, and dedicated environmentalist. I’m running for Council to ensure a safer, greener, more affordable Berkeley.

I’ve spent the past fifteen years leading environmental efforts: I've worked on-the-ground restoring habitats in Haiti, I led teams monitoring urban tree canopy, I secured a deal that protected over 400,000 acres of forest on the East Coast, and I served on our local Sierra Club Executive Committee. It took me more than a decade to be able to afford to call Berkeley home. I’m running for City Council because I believe Berkeley can be the model of an affordable, well-run progressive city that delivers on its values.

Ross Bernet on Housing and Abundance

“We need market-rate housing projects to start breaking ground again to build our Housing Trust Fund back up, and we should put another affordable housing bond in front of voters now that Measure O funds have run out.”
From rossforberkeley.com
“Support necessary zoning, building code, and other changes to make smaller, affordable-by-design homes more feasible to build, while ensuring we keep community benefits and strong design guidelines so that new buildings enhance our city.”
From rossforberkeley.com
“Prioritize housing near transit and destinations like schools, jobs, and shops, helping to keep cars off the road and reduce our community’s environmental footprint.”
