About Tim Tung

I’m Tim Tung — an SFUSD parent, a public finance professional, and a lifelong believer in public education.

My two young children attend the Chinese Immersion School at De Avila, where I chair our School Site Council and serve as our cohort’s representative to SFUSD’s LCAP Advisory Committee. I’ve spent countless hours digging into student performance data, advocating for our classrooms, and working alongside the families and educators who make our school community strong. I know what our schools can be because I see it every day.

I also know what it takes to fix an organization’s finances, because I’ve spent 20 years doing exactly that. I began my career in the City of San Jose’s Finance Department, helping steer a major city government through the 2008 financial crisis. I then spent 12 years at S&P Global Ratings evaluating the budgets, forecasts, and leadership of hundreds of local governments (including school districts!) across the country and holding executives publicly accountable when they failed to deliver. Most recently, I served on the municipal team of a global investment firm.
