Meet the authors of "The Lower American River" and learn about the environmental history of this vital river. Then water the native plants and do some weeding in the pocket prairie. We'll provide coffee, snacks, and a light al fresco lunch. Thanks to a Community Action Grant from the City of Sacramento, ReWild Sacramento and the Friends of Sutter's Landing, along with many volunteers, are restoring a small part of the riparian habitat at Sutter's Landing. We removed invasive weeds and planted natives and are continuing to maintain the area. We also love to learn about the environment. The authors of "The Lower American River," Jason Weekley and Chris Curran, will give a brief talk about the history of the American River and how we got to present day Sacramento. After we've learned a small bit about the original inhabitants, flood control, mining, and the environment we'll do some watering and weeding of the area. Sutter's Landing Park, top of the levee by the skate park and at the new Two Rivers Trail The levee top and brief lecture is physically accessible although there is no seating. We are suggesting people bring lawn chairs. There is no electricity at the site so no voice amplification. The lecture is outdoors so it may be difficult to hear if there is wind or other noises. Weeding and watering involve walking on uneven ground, bending, stooping, and lifting. There may be thorns, biting insects, and heat.
