Public Meeting: Liberty Street Protected Bike Lane

The City of Harrisonburg is hosting a Kickoff Open House on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at City Hall Council Chambers to launch design work for the Downtown Liberty Street project, funded by a $14.3 million federal RAISE grant. Why it matters: Safer walking/rolling: curb extensions, ADA ramps, better crossings & signals Low-stress biking: two-way protected cycle track on Liberty St Better connections: 10’ path linking to Bluestone Trail (JMU → Purcell Park) Greener, more vibrant Downtown: landscaped medians, modernized intersections Fully funded at current estimate (no local match at this time) Come learn, ask questions, and share feedback that will shape the block-by-block design.
