The Big Short Movie Night πŸ πŸ“‰πŸŽ₯🍿

Strong SacTown

RSVP on Luma: * Do you know how the β€˜08 financial crash occurred and how it relates to housing? We will casually explore it by watching The Big Short and discussing it! This event is hosted by the Strong SacTown Housing Working Group. We'll connect what we see in the movie to learnings from the Strong Towns book Escaping the Housing Trap. Anyone is welcome - bring a friend! About the Movie The Big Short is a comedy-drama film by Adam McKay based on the true story told in Michael Lewis' book about the 2008 financial crisis. It follows three groups of investors who bet against the housing bubble and face challenges from banks, regulators, and the market. Watch the trailer. The crash results from years of financial malfeasance and incompetence among the top salesmen and executives at the largest Wall Street banks. At the center of the storm are subprime mortgage bonds, securities that package lower-quality home loans as investments. These bonds become increasingly risky, but the danger is hidden from investors so cleverly that it fools even the banks that sell them. When the bonds fail, hundreds of billions of dollars in securities become worthless, toppling major investment banks and forcing the government to step in to save the economy from collapse. The Big Short chronicles this story and the efforts of a small number of investors who realize a catastrophe is brewing and try to profit from it. - Super Summary Accessibility - Event will be held indoors at a member's house. - πŸ‘¨β€πŸ¦½β€βž‘οΈ Wheelchairs: 1 step up to front door - πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ Bike: No bike stalls, but bikes may be stored in host’s room.
