About Scott Peters
Environmental lawyer. San Diego's first City Council President. Port Chair. U.S. Congressman. Scott Peters has spent decades fixing things for San Diego, not fighting over them.
He's always believed government should work for people, not politics. Scott learned early that making a difference means standing up for what you believe in, then doing the hard work to make it happen.
His father, a Lutheran minister, worked on housing desegregation and race relations in Detroit during the turbulent 1960s. His mother worked as a secretary and got through college on student loans and work-study. Those experiences shaped Scott's belief that opportunity should be open to everyone, and that public service is about improving people's lives.
After Duke University, he worked as an economist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, then earned his law degree at NYU. He came to San Diego more than 30 years ago and spent 16 years practicing environmental law, including as a Deputy County Counsel for San Diego County and running his own small firm.

Scott Peters on Housing and Abundance
“Build more homes, get more people off the street and into housing, and cut the red tape that slows both down.”
“Scraps a 1974 rule that forced manufactured homes onto a permanent steel chassis, so builders can make more affordable homes for less.”
“His earlier law lets nonprofits put federal homelessness money to work directly, and he's fought to get homeless veterans off the street and into homes.”
